396 posts · Joined 2016. #5 · Mar 2, 2021. Remote start they come on without any user input, otherwise you wait till the glow plug indicator goes off when in the ign key position before turning over the engine. They are quick even in very cold weather. Takes about 3 secs at most that i have seen.

So I'd suggest you replace all 4 plugs and the glow plug relay (or timer, control module, whatever it's called on this model) at the same time. It may be in the manual somewhere, otherwise google is your friend. If you get through the next few months without it failing again you have most likely solved the issue.

I've never heard of converting a diesel to cng. There isn't a place to put the spark plugs other than the glow plug hole and that wont work. You can modify a diesel to run with propane injected along with diesel tho. They can also run with a spray of windshield washer fluid (methanol/water) shot into the charged air pipe or intake manifold. Brett.
Depends on the engine, oil, weather. I never plugged my 7.3 in but it only gets down to single digits at worst here. Now my 6L is a little cranky especially on 15-40 oil. A few times below 20 I had to cycle the key twice and let the glow plugs warm 40 seconds or so. With 5-40 oil it fires in cold fine.

In this video he explains how the main culprit might not be glow plugs, and importance of engine compression and fuel distribution. In fact he starts his pajero 4D56 by disconnecting the GP relay.
